ABOUT THIS NON-PROFIT
About Our Organization:Our mission is to support brain tumor patients and caregivers in the greater Kansas City area - through public awareness, education and services - and to aid organizations working to cure brain tumors. By working with Dr. Michael Salacz, Neuro-oncologist at St. Lukes hospital, Children's Mercy, and other local hospitals, we work towards offering assistance when someone is diagnosed with this life changing disease.
How Can We Help?We provide support to local families affected by brain tumors. beHeadStrong offers financial assistance to help with the high cost of medical care, travel and other living expenses associated with the treatment of brain tumors. Our hot line and volunteers can be reached at 913-314-2255 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. We also distribute informational pamphlets at St. Luke’s Hospital, Children's Mercy Hospital and other local hospitals. New patients who register for our services will also receive an information packet with resources to other support organizations.
Our Story:In June of 2002, we participated in the Race for Hope, a 5K run to raise funds for brain cancer research. The proceeds were contributed to the National Brain Tumor Foundation now the National Brain Tumor Society, and another portion going to a local foundation. In 2004, Mark Newsome, Rob and Gail Mullin, and J.R. Waisner changed focus and established beHeadStrong to support brain tumor patients in the Kansas City area as well as raise money to find a cure for this disease. Sadly, J.R. Waisner, lost his battle with brain cancer in 2004. Today, his wife Jennifer carries on his legacy as a volunteer member of the organization.
